Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth is nearing completion. Driving past this impressive sight two weeks ago I felt a frisson of pride as I gazed at the impressive design. Its proximity to the Govan Mbeki Avenue will mean that foot traffic will be a vital part of the attendees as cars, buses and taxis can drop the faithful followers off just there, and a short walk will get them into the games!
This Stadium is a multi use facility costing approx 2, 1 billion rand to build, and it has capacity of 49,500 people,
Built on the North End Lake, a beautiful setting, the Stadium has a unique 3 tier design with 2 rings of sky boxes.
2010 Matches to be played there are scheduled for the 12, 15, 18, 21, 23, 26 June and 02 July
These include: - 5 first round matches; 1 x quarter final and on the 02 July 2010 the third place play off. So you can see there are lots of opportunities for you, to not only enjoy the 40 kilometers of immaculate beaches in and around Port Elizabeth, but also to drive a mere 90 minutes out to the adventure capital of South Africa, Storms River, in the world famous Tsitsikamma.
Here we have the Treetop Canopy Tours, Waterfall Zip line Tours, the bungee jump – highest at 216 metres in the world, and, of course, the pretty coastline, the internationally renowned Tsitsikamma National Park, the forest hiking, and the unsurpassed Waterfall Trail, the first day of the Otter Trail.
Our roads are excellent, our hospitality warm and relaxed; our food - traditional South African country cuisine, and we are waiting for your visit!
